Our method

Six rules, two of which deliberately limit what we write.

Learning keyboard position

One · tested steps

Every step is tried on more than one machine before it is published.

Where behaviour differs between systems, that is stated rather than smoothed over.

Two · no brands

No manufacturer, model or program is recommended.

Product names appear only to identify what is being discussed.

Three · no screenshots

We describe what to look for rather than showing a picture of one version.

Interfaces change; descriptions of purpose survive.

Four · visible dates

Every page carries a publication and a last-checked date.

Operating systems change their menus often enough for this to matter.

Five · open corrections

Reported errors are checked and confirmed ones are fixed in the text.

The revision date moves; nothing is edited silently.

Six · no commercial influence

No advertising, sponsorship or affiliate links.

No analytics and no external resources of any kind.

If a step does not work on your computer, please tell us.
